Did you know that you can witness the magical spectacle of the Northern Lights not only at one of Earth's poles but also at the equator?

To experience this phenomenon, you should head to Java Island, which is just a few hours away from Bali. From there, you'll travel east to the Ijen volcano. Here, at an elevation of 2,000 meters above sea level, you'll be treated to a breathtaking display of natural beauty. This includes a striking turquoise lake, vibrant yellow stones and the mesmerizing blue lights.

This place is also famous for its massive sulfur formations. During the day, workers carry enormous pieces of sulfur in their baskets. But at night the mysterious blue lights appear around the rocks. This remarkable occurrence is due to sulfur reacting with oxygen, producing a unique luminescence that becomes visible after dark.

All these elements come together to create a truly awe-inspiring landscape. Be sure to bring a camera along to capture this wonder in photographs, not just in your memory.

The journey to Ijen involves several hours of travel on uneven roads. For a more comfortable experience, you may want to consider the Restful Ijen tour and 3-day Ijen and Bromo tours, which include accommodations in a hotel before embarking on your climb.

Welcome to the Ijen Planet!

Twice to climb this mountain. And still want to go there again. Please ensure that your body is fit. This climbing will took approximately 2 to 3 hours walking. First 1km is quite lean, then second km is so steep. The third km is lran again. Be carefull if you want to go down to crater.

The hike up to the peak and down to the crater is quite challenging, esp the hike down the carter. Made of random rock formation, we need to be careful where to place our feet in case of stepping on loose rocks. The path is also narrow. Apart from sharing with fellow hikers, there is also a group of local sulphur miners, who are carrying a load of up to 90kg. A pair of good hiking shoes and a trekking pole is absolutely necessary, We are lucky to be able to see the blue flame.. all i can say - i am awed! The sulphur smoke is rather unbearable, and unfortunately, the smell lingers on the clothing, even after many days and few rounds of washing :(

The Ijen Crater is a beautiful sight! It is definitely a MUST VISIT. & we were very lucky to have been able to see the blue fire! However, please be safe and ensure that you are wearing HIKING SHOES and not substituting it with sport shoes. The descend down the crater is a dangerous and slippery one so it is very important to be careful and cautious of your steps. Then it was an amazing walk back to the bottom. I would not advise children to partake in this hike.
