What To Expect

Day 1

Transfer: Bali – Volcano Bromo

08:00-12:00 - transfer from the hotel/villa to the ferry terminal in Gilimanuk.

The driver of the Go Adventure company will arrive at the appointed time. We will take a comfortable car across the western part of the island to the ferry terminal. The road passes through the most picturesque surroundings of Bali: beaches, rice fields and the Western National Park.

12:00 -13:00 - ferry crossing to the port of Banyuwangi in the east of Java. In Ketapang, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant and continue the trip to the Bromo Mountain area.

About 5 more hours on the road and by 18:00 we are on the spot – in the village of Djemara Lavang. Here you will need to register at the hotel – and you can relax after a busy day.

Day 2

Sunrise on Bromo – trekking to Bromo – Banyuwangi crater

03:00 - We leave the hotel in a four-wheel drive jeep in order to be in time for dawn. An unforgettable excursion to the Bromo volcano awaits us.

At 4:00 in the morning we will arrive at the observation deck on Mount Penanjakan, where on the edge of the Tengger caldera the breath is taken away with delight – such an incredible view opens to the ascending panorama of Bromo. Here we will meet the dawn.

At 06:00 in the morning we will return to the jeeps and drive through the “Sea of Sand” – a sandy plain with an incredible view of the volcanic terrain. Then we will climb to the active volcano. Having overcome 240 steps, we will find ourselves at its top and will be able to see the crater of the volcano and the amazing Martian landscape around. After that, we return to the jeep and go to the hotel: we have breakfast, pack our things and have some rest.

At 10:00 am we leave for the hotel in the direction of the Madakaripura waterfall. There you will spend about 2 hours and explore the local landscapes. You will have the opportunity to refresh yourself in the cool water of the  the Madakaripura waterfall.

After visiting the waterfall, you will continue your way to the hotel at the foot of the Ijen volcano. The approximate travel time is 5-6 hours. On the way we will make a stop for lunch. On the spot we will check in at the hotel and we will have the opportunity to relax here until midnight.

Day 3

Trekking at Ijen – return to Bali

At 00:30 at night we leave the hotel to the slope of the active volcano Ijen and get into the amazing natural world – this is one of the few areas in Java where giant ferns and bizarre plants remain. Before going on the ascent, we will meet with a professional English-speaking guide who will give us masks, respirators and lanterns.

At 02:00 at night we start climbing Ijen. Trekking will take about 1.5 hours. At the crater you will be able to enjoy a stunning sight - the blue lights for which Ijen is famous. The largest sulfur deposit is located here and its production is constantly underway. Miners climb up from the crater with 80-kilogram baskets on their shoulders. We'll meet them on the way to the top.

We will see the sunrise at an altitude of 2386 meters above sea level. From there, we will discover incredible landscapes: silhouettes of mountains, morning haze and an acid lake of an incredible turquoise hue.

At 06:00 in the morning we begin the descent from the volcano. The approximate time of descent is 1 hour. Then we go to the hotel for breakfast and pack our things.

11:00 -17:00 - return to Bali. The exact time of arrival at the hotel/villa depends on the distance of your hotel and the situation on the road.

Important information:

• as of December 13, 2023, the official information states that due to the Bromo volcano's activity, it's only possible to climb up to the crater at a distance of 1 km or to the lower part of the stairs. If weather and natural conditions allow, guides might grant permission to climb higher. This decision is made on-site and solely by the guide.
• the descent into the crater to the lake is not equipped for safe descent and ascent. We strongly do not recommend descending into the crater. Otherwise, the tour organizer is not responsible for possible consequences.
• the time indicated in the travel plan is approximate and may change due to weather or other conditions;
• according to the terms of service paragraph 7.3.3 MyBaliTrips.com is not responsible for the weather on the dates of your trekking. The weather in the caldera of Ijen and Bromo is unpredictable. There might be rain, fog or low visibility. The risk of it gets higher in raining season;
• at the top of the volcanoes Bromo and Ijen, the temperature can drop to +7 - +3 degrees, we strongly recommend that you take warm clothes: jackets, hats, warm pants, sweaters, several cotton T-shirts, socks and comfortable shoes.
• Climbing Ijen is not recommended for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory diseases, pregnant women and people with heart failure.
