What To Expect

Day 1

Transfer: Bali - Bromo Volcano

08:00-12:00 - Transfer from your hotel/villa to the ferry terminal in Gilimanuk.

In the morning, at the designated time, a comfortable transport will pick you up to head towards the ferry terminal. The journey traverses through Bali's most picturesque landscapes: beaches, rice fields, and the Western National Park.

12:00-13:00 - Ferry crossing to the Banyuwangi port on the east side of Java. Time for a meal, we'll stop in Ketapang for lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, we'll head to Mount Bromo.

Another 5 hours on the road and by 18:00, you'll arrive at your destination - the village of Jemara Lawang. It's time to rest from the journey at the hotel - check-in and prepare for sleep, an early rise awaits you.

Day 2

03:00 - Depart from the hotel in a 4WD jeep to catch the sunrise. An unforgettable excursion to Mount Bromo awaits you.

At 06:00 in the morning, you'll return to the jeeps and drive through the "Sea of Sand" – a sandy plain offering incredible views of the volcanic landscape. Next, you'll embark on an ascent to the active volcano. After climbing 240 steps, you'll reach its summit, witnessing the volcano's crater and the astonishing Martian-like scenery around. Following this, you'll head back to the jeep and return to the hotel: have breakfast, pack up, and relax.

09:15 - 11:00 - Travel back to the hotel in our jeeps. It's time for a meal, some rest, and preparation for the next trip. Check-out and set out on the road again towards the waterfall. The entire journey will take about 5 hours, allowing time to process the experiences and get ready for the next adventure. Arrive at the next hotel by 16:00 for check-in, where you'll have free time to relax.

Day 3

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall and Transfer

5:30 - 6:00 AM: Departure to one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls on the island of Java - Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. Its name translates to "a thousand waterfalls," and it's well-deserved. The location is a semi-circular cliff, where dozens of surface and underground waterfalls fall from a height of 180 meters. Streams of varying strength and scale flow from almost everywhere. The sight is breathtaking! During the three-hour visit, you'll explore the waterfall's surroundings, descend to the viewing platform for the best photo opportunities, appreciate nature, and return to the vehicle.

9:00 - 11:00 AM:  You will be served breakfast before setting off for the next stop of your adventure to Mount Ijen. It's about a 5-hour drive, and you'll arrive at a hotel near the base of Ijen around 6:00 PM. Take some rest and prepare for the thrilling nighttime experience ahead!

Day 4

Ijen volcano trekking - Return to Bali

Get ready to leave the hotel by 12:30 AM for the active Ijen volcano. This area is a unique natural wonder, home to rare giant ferns and unusual plants. Before the trek begins, meet our knowledgeable guide, fluent in English, who will provide you with masks, respirators, and torches.

At 2:00 AM, your ascent to Ijen begins. The trek will take approximately 1.5 hours. As you reach the crater, prepare to witness a stunning phenomenon - the mesmerizing blue flames that Ijen is famous for. This location holds the largest sulfur deposit globally, and extraction operations are ongoing. Miners ascend from the crater carrying baskets weighing up to 80 kilograms. You will encounter them on your way to the summit.

At 2386 meters above sea level, you will witness the sunrise. From there, you'll witness incredible landscapes: mountain silhouettes, the morning mist, and the astonishing turquoise-hued acidic lake.

At 6:00 AM, you will begin your descent from the volcano. The approximate duration of the descent is 1 hour. Afterwards, you will head back to the hotel for breakfast and to gather your belongings.

From 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Return to Bali. The exact arrival time at your hotel/villa depends on its distance and the road conditions.

Important information:

• According to official information as of December 13, 2023, due to the activity of Mount Bromo, the ascent is possible only up to a distance of 1 km from the crater or to the lower part of the stairs. If weather conditions permit, guides may allow further ascent. This decision is made on-site and solely by the guide.
• The descent into the crater to the lake is not equipped for safe descent and ascent. We strongly do not recommend descending into the crater. Otherwise, the tour organizer is not responsible for possible consequences.
• The timings provided in the travel plan are approximate and subject to change due to weather or other conditions.
• In accordance with section 7.3.3 of the user agreement, MyBaliTrips.com is not liable for weather conditions on the dates of your ascent. Weather on Mounts Ijen and Bromo is unpredictable; fog, rain, and low visibility are possible during the ascent, especially during the rainy season.
• At the summit of Mount Bromo, temperatures can drop to +7 to +3 degrees Celsius. We strongly recommend that you bring warm clothing: jackets, hats, warm pants, sweaters, several cotton T-shirts, socks, and comfortable footwear.
• Climbing Ijen is not recommended for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory diseases, pregnant women and people with heart failure.
