What To Expect

Day 1

Transfer: Bali – Mount Bromo

08:00–12:00 - Transfer from your hotel/villa to the ferry terminal in Gilimanuk.

Early in the morning, at the appointed time, a driver from Go Adventure will pick you up. In a comfortable vehicle, you will travel across the western part of Bali to the ferry terminal. The route passes through some of Bali’s most picturesque landscapes: beaches, rice paddies, and the West Bali National Park.

12:00–13:00 - ferry crossing to the port of Banyuwangi in East Java. In Ketapang, you will stop for lunch at a local restaurant and then continue the trip to the Mount Bromo area.

After approximately 5 more hours on the road, you will arrive around 18:00 in the village of Cemoro Lawang. Here, you will check in to your hotel and relax after a full day of travel.

Day 2

Sunrise at Bromo – Crater climb – Banyuwangi

03:00 - departure from the hotel by 4WD jeep to catch the sunrise. An unforgettable excursion to Mount Bromo awaits.

By 04:00 you will reach the Pananjakan viewpoint, located on the edge of the Tengger caldera. The panoramic view of Bromo at sunrise takes your breath away. This is where you will meet the dawn.

At 06:00 you will return to the jeeps and cross the “Sea of Sand,” a vast plain with dramatic volcanic landscapes. Then you will hike up the active volcano. After climbing 240 steps, you will reach the summit, where you can see the crater and the stunning Mars-like scenery. You will then return to the jeep and head back to the hotel for breakfast, packing, and some rest.

At 10:00 you will leave the hotel for Madakaripura Waterfall. You will spend about two hours here, exploring the natural surroundings and enjoying the cool mist near the falls. Afterward, you will continue on to a hotel at the foot of Mount Ijen.

According to new regulations for visiting Mount Ijen, all tourists are required to have their blood pressure checked and obtain medical clearance. A short stop at a clinic will be arranged en route to the hotel; this won’t take long. There will also be a lunch stop. Estimated travel time is 5–6 hours. After check-in, you can rest at the hotel until midnight.

Day 3

Ijen hike – Return to Bali

00:30 - departure from the hotel to the base of Mount Ijen.

You will enter a fascinating natural environment – one of the few regions in Java where giant ferns and unusual plants still grow. Before the trek, you will meet your professional English-speaking guide, who will provide gas masks and headlamps.

At 02:00 the hike to Ijen begins. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the crater. There, you will witness the famous blue flames that make Ijen so unique. It is the site of the largest sulfur mine in Indonesia, where miners carry 80-kg baskets of sulfur from the crater. You’ll encounter them on the trail.

You will see the sunrise from an altitude of 2,386 meters above sea level, with magnificent views: mountain silhouettes, morning mist, and a striking turquoise acidic lake.

At 06:00 you will begin the descent, which takes about one hour. Then you will return to the hotel for breakfast and packing.

11:00–17:00 - return to Bali. Exact arrival time at your hotel or villa depends on its location and traffic conditions.

Important information:

• Transfer is provided from the meeting point. If you have two pickup points in the same area, no extra charge applies. If pickups are in different areas, please check the cost with our managers.
• According to official information from December 13, 2023, due to volcanic activity, access to Mount Bromo is currently limited to a distance of 1 km from the crater or the base of the staircase. If weather conditions allow, guides may give permission to climb higher – this decision is made on site by the guide only.
• Access to Ijen crater is permitted only up to 500 meters from the sulfur source, up to the red flag. The path down into the crater to the lake is not equipped for safe descent and ascent. We strongly discourage attempting to enter the crater. The tour operator is not responsible for any consequences resulting from this.
• The times listed in the itinerary are approximate and may vary depending on weather or other conditions.
• As stated in clause 7.3.3 of the user agreement, MyBaliTrips.com is not responsible for weather conditions on the dates of your hike. Weather on Mount Ijen and Bromo is unpredictable and may include fog, rain, and poor visibility, especially during the rainy season.
• At the summit of Mount Bromo, temperatures may drop to +7 to +3 degrees Celsius. We strongly recommend bringing warm clothes: jackets, hats, warm pants, jumpers or sweaters, several cotton T-shirts, socks, and comfortable shoes.
• After the Ijen hike, gas masks and headlamps must be returned to the guide. In case of loss, damage, or failure to return, a fine of 50,000 IDR per item will be charged.
• The Ijen hike is not recommended for people with respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD, and other lung diseases, pregnant women, or individuals with heart conditions.
