What to expect

Day 1 — Surabaya Airport to Madakaripura Waterfall

09:00-10:00 Our team will greet you at Surabaya Airport. We will then travel to Madakaripura Waterfall, a journey that includes a 2-hour car ride, a 45-minute motorcycle taxi ride, and a 2 km walk.

13:30-15:00 Enjoy free time to explore and photograph the picturesque Madakaripura Waterfall (swimming is prohibited). Afterward, we'll head to your hotel in Chemoro Lawang village. In the afternoon, you can visit the Penanjakan observation deck for a stunning sunset view.

Day 2 — Sunrise on Bromo – Bromo Volcano Crater – Surabaya Airport

03:00 Depart the hotel in a four-wheel-drive jeep to witness the dawn.

04:00 Arrive at the Penanjakan observation deck on Mount Penanjakan. Experience breathtaking views of the Bromo sunrise over the Tengger caldera.

06:00 Return to the jeep and drive through the “Sea of Sand,” a sandy plain offering incredible volcanic terrain views. Climb 240 steps to the Bromo volcano crater and marvel at the Martian landscape.

10:30 Depart for Surabaya Airport, with an approximate 3-hour travel time.

Important Information:

as of December 13th 2023, due to increased volcanic activity, climbing to the crater is limited to a distance of 1 km or the lower part of the stairs. The guide will make on-site decisions based on safety conditions;
weather can be unpredictable in the Ijen and Bromo calderas, with potential rain, fog, or low visibility. We recommend bringing warm clothes as temperatures at the volcano summits can drop to +7 to +3 degrees Celsius;
after climbing Ijen volcano, return any provided masks and flashlights to the guide. Loss or damage of these items incurs a fine of 50 000 Indonesian Rupiahs per item;

The entire tour went according to the announced plan, as stated in the tour description. The meeting at the airport was on time. The driver was friendly and polite. The trip to the waterfall (the most impressive one we've seen!). Transfer to the hotel. Evening walk to the sunset viewing platform. Night trip to the sunrise viewing platform. Trip to Mount Bromo, ascent to its crater. Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport. The Artotel hotel met expectations. However, it was quite cold at night. Only the next day did we find out at the reception that we could have asked for a heater.)) This time we were not lucky with the weather - we couldn't enjoy the sunrise due to the clouds. But here we understand that the claims can only be made to the heavenly office.) Overall, everything went smoothly. Only positive impressions!
