Tenganan Village

Tenganan Village

One of the oldest villages in Bali, where representatives of the Bali Aga people—indigenous to the island—still live. This place is noteworthy for its residents and their traditional way of life. The usual rules for Balinese do not apply here, the local hierarchy and rituals are different, and the society remains very closed and has only recently become accessible to tourists. Great importance is given to traditional crafts. In Tenganan, you can witness the process of creating unique textile items: painted batik, sarongs, and double ikat, which has no equivalent in the world. This complex weaving technique, where both threads are dyed before weaving, requires high precision and is considered sacred.

Visitors to the village can purchase artisans' works as authentic souvenirs and connect with the ancient cultural heritage of Bali.
