Sebayur Island

Sebayur might not headline every Komodo itinerary, but it plays a crucial role in the archipelago. It’s a substantial island with jagged coastlines and hills that glow a deep, metallic gold at sunset. Because the bays here are sheltered from the park's notoriously heavy currents, it’s one of the few spots where boats actually moor overnight. There’s a distinct stillness here; once the engines cut and the deck lights flicker on, you really feel the quiet of the archipelago.

There’s a hike to the summit that’s significantly more manageable than Padar’s, but the view is just as rewarding, revealing the coral reefs as brilliant turquoise patches against the deep blue. Below the surface, Sebayur Kecil is a gem for relaxed diving. It’s a gentle, sloping reef—no fighting the tide, just drifting past parrotfish, rays, and the occasional reef shark. It’s the perfect place for beginners or anyone just looking for an effortless underwater wander without the adrenaline rush.
