Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach is a strip of dazzling white sand at the foot of a towering limestone cliff on the eastern coast of Nusa Penida. The beach gets its name from the jagged, diamond-shaped rock formations that rise directly from the turquoise water just offshore. Until 2018, the beach was only viewable from above, but now a staircase with concrete steps and rope railings has been carved into the cliffside, allowing access down to the surf. The descent takes about 20 minutes and is a scenic route in its own right, with each step offering a new perspective on the contrast between white stone, vibrant green palms, and the deep indigo of the Indian Ocean.
At the base of the stairs, the shore is scattered with coral fragments and large stones, and the ocean here is characterized by powerful swells and strong currents. Swimming should be approached with great caution and only near the shoreline, as the seabed drops off quite sharply. There is almost no natural shade on the beach itself, so it is best to plan a visit for the morning hours while the sun is still low and the cliff casts a long shadow over the sand. Diamond Beach is located on the same grounds as Atuh Beach, separated only by a high rocky ridge that offers one of the most recognizable views on the east of the island.
