Atuh Beach

Atuh Beach is a secluded cove on the eastern coast of Nusa Penida, tucked between two high rocky headlands. The view from above is dominated by a massive stone arch standing in the sea, which locals call the "Shoe Island." Unlike neighboring Diamond Beach, the descent here is more gradual and equipped with concrete steps, though it still requires effort on the way back up. The beach is highly tide-dependent: at low tide, the rocky seabed and live corals are exposed, while at high tide, the bay transforms into a perfect pool with a turquoise mirror surface.
The sand here is mixed with fine coral fragments, and a line of simple thatched shacks and local warungs stretches along the shore, offering a place to escape the midday heat. The ocean in this part of the island is calmer than at Kelingking, making Atuh Beach one of the few places on Penida where you can swim without fearing harsh shore breaks.
