Angel’s Billabong

Angel’s Billabong is a natural rock pool on the western coast of Nusa Penida, filled with crystal-clear ocean water. The lagoon formed in a depression of volcanic rock, polished smooth by the surf over thousands of years. The pool floor is covered with vibrant green algae and textured stone, creating the effect of a natural inlaid pool beneath the water’s surface. During low tide, the water here stands perfectly still, allowing you to see every detail on the bottom, while just a few meters away, massive open-ocean swells crash against the stone threshold.
Visiting this location is heavily dependent on the lunar cycle and tide levels; during high tide or heavy swells, the ocean surges over the edge of the lagoon, making it dangerous to be inside. A rocky path leads from the parking area to the lagoon, and while descending into the pool itself is technically possible via the rocks, most prefer to watch the interplay of color and elements from the clifftop viewpoints. The site is located right next to Broken Beach, connected by a shared panoramic trail along the rugged coastline.
