Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave)

One of the most ancient and mysterious temple complexes in Bali, located near Ubud. Its origins remain a mystery: some consider it a Hindu temple because of the statue of the god Ganesha with the head of an elephant, while others view it as Buddhist due to images of meditating monks. The name is associated either with Ganesha or with the Petanu River, which was formerly called “Elephant”. The entrance to the cave is adorned with a demon face carved into the rock, seemingly guarding the passage. Inside are narrow corridors and niches for meditation, and outside are pools with fountains, ancient statues, and the ruins of sanctuaries, surrounded by lush jungle greenery.
This is a place where one can feel the mystical atmosphere and touch the history of Bali.
