Kerta Gosa Museum

The historical complex in Klungkung introduces visitors to the cultural heritage of royal Bali and the unique atmosphere of ancient Hindu epics. The Kerta Gosa Museum, formerly a court of justice where trials were held in the 17th century, is its main attraction. The highlight is the painted ceiling, decorated with traditional Balinese painting techniques, depicting karmic laws, the struggle between good and evil, and the afterlife. While judges deliberated on a prisoner’s fate, the accused could only horror at the dramatic images on the walls and ceiling of the hall. These images instilled fear and aimed to prevent future bad deeds. Inside the museum, you can see ancient artifacts, royal regalia, and items from Balinese aristocratic life.
