How It Will Be

Day 1 — Arrival in Wamena and Stay at Baliem Valley Resort

Upon arrival at Wamena Airport, you will meet your local guide and driver, where your journey through the remote highlands of Papua begins.

On the way to the resort, a stop is planned at Wamena Market — the largest market in the region, where local tribes sell vegetables, fruits, sweet potatoes, and other products that form an important part of daily life in the Baliem Valley.

Afterward, you will transfer to Baliem Valley Resort for check-in. The rest of the day can be spent relaxing and enjoying your first impressions of Papua’s unique mountain landscapes.

Day 2 — Trekking Through the Southern Baliem Valley

After breakfast, you will head out to explore the southern part of the Baliem Valley — one of the most authentic regions of Papua, where local tribes continue to preserve their traditional way of life.

The route passes through Dani villages, agricultural fields, suspension bridges, terraced landscapes, and wild sugarcane plantations. Along the way, you will get a glimpse of everyday life in communities living far from major cities and modern infrastructure.

A picnic with panoramic views over the valley is included during the trek. In the afternoon, you will return to the lodge.

Day 3 — Traditional Dani Pig Feast Ceremony

Today you will experience one of the region’s most fascinating cultural traditions — a visit to a traditional Dani village and participation in a ceremonial pig feast.

This ancient ceremony brings together people from several villages for a community gathering, communal cooking, and traditional rituals. The central part of the ceremony is the preparation of food in an underground stone oven using heated rocks — a cooking method that has been practiced in the highlands of Papua for generations.

During the visit, you will have the opportunity to observe the ceremony up close, learn more about local traditions, and taste traditionally prepared pork served with sweet potatoes.

In the late afternoon, you will return to the lodge.
