What To Expect
- Day 1. Cruise Departure from Sorong Port to the Waigeo Area
Your adventure begins with a transfer from your hotel or the airport to the ferry station.
- Welcome Aboard: Upon boarding the "Calico Jack" boat, you’ll be greeted, assigned your cabin, and given a safety briefing.
- Departure: We set sail towards the Waisai area around 11:00 AM. This is your chance to meet fellow travelers and the crew, as well as receive your equipment before the first test dive.
- Evening: As the sun sets, visit Mioskon Island to witness the evening spectacle of bat colonies taking flight.
- Night: Spend the night anchored at the Mioskon dive spot.
- Day 2. Dampier Strait, Kri Area
- Morning Dives: Start your day with dives at Mioskon and Sardine Reef. Despite its name, sardines are one of the few fish you won't find here, but you'll be surrounded by schools of fish so dense they obscure the light. The reefs are adorned with vibrant sea fans, soft corals, and sponges.
- Lunch and Dive: After lunch, dive at Cape Kri, the site with the highest fish concentration in all of Raja Ampat. During one dive, you could encounter over 374 species, including reef sharks, barracudas, and turtles. After the dive, enjoy a snack and some free time.
- Sunset and Night Dives: Conclude the day with a sunset dive and a night dive at Yenbuba Village's Jetty on the southern coast of Kri Island. Explore the nocturnal world of octopuses, squids, and bioluminescent shrimp.
- Dinner and Overnight: Enjoy dinner and spend the night aboard the boat.
- Day 3. Arborek Island and Encounter with Majestic Mantas
- Morning Dives: Begin the day with a drift dive at Cape Yenbuba, letting the currents guide you along the vibrant reef.
- Breakfast and Dive: After breakfast, take a short journey to Manta Sandy, the site with the highest concentration of manta rays in Raja Ampat. Watch as these gentle giants come in for a cleaning session with reef fish and feast on plankton.
- Arborek Island: Head to Arborek Island for your third dive at Lalosi, a pristine and endless underwater reef. Afterward, visit the local village to experience the traditional lifestyle of the island's inhabitants.
- Night Dive: Finish the day with a night dive at Arborek Pier. The pier is covered in soft corals, with needlefish, cuttlefish, and giant clams providing shelter to hermit crabs, flatworms, and skeleton shrimp.
- Dinner and Overnight: Enjoy dinner and rest aboard the boat.
- Day 4. Pianemo
- Early Arrival: Arrive early at My Reef near Penemu Island, known for one of the largest fish aggregations in Raja Ampat, particularly during strong currents.
- Coral Garden Dive: Dive into the coral garden at Melissa's Garden, a site brimming with colorful corals and a variety of reef fish like clownfish, angelfish, snappers, and butterflyfish.
- Land Excursion: Disembark for a trek to the scenic viewpoint at Pianemo, offering breathtaking views of karst peaks rising from turquoise waters, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.
- Return and Relax: Return to the boat for free time and dinner.
- Day 5. Kave Islands and the Blue Waters of Wayag Lagoons
- Exploring Kave Island: Begin your day by exploring the surroundings of Kave Island, crossing the equator, and diving at the Black Rock coral reef. This site is known for its lush black corals. If you're lucky, you might encounter turtles, rays, and schools of snappers and groupers.
- Visit to Wayag Lagoons: Proceed to the famous picturesque lagoons of Wayag. Dive at Eagle Rock, where you'll experience a breathtaking underwater landscape of massive coral platforms, rocky formations, and steep walls. Graceful mantas often circle around the underwater elevations, accompanied by schools of parrotfish, needlefish, and vividly colored nudibranchs with unique forms not found elsewhere in Raja Ampat.
- Kayaking and Boating: Enjoy kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), or a ride on a motorboat.
- Hike to Pindito Mountain: Climb to the viewpoint on Pindito Mountain for a 360-degree panoramic view of the stunning landscape. If you're lucky, you might spot the outlines of mantas gliding in the shallow turquoise waters below.
- Day 6. Wayag Islands
- Early Sunrise: Rise early to witness the sunrise at the equator amidst the iconic limestone islands of Wayag, a signature sight of Raja Ampat.
- Manta Diving: Dive at Wayag Corner, a secret spot where mantas gracefully navigate between the rocks. These giants often come here for their cleansing "spa treatments."
- Shark Breeding Center: Visit the blacktip reef shark breeding center located in the heart of the archipelago. Relax on the beach and swim with baby sharks in the shallow waters under the supervision of rangers.
- Journey to Wofo Islands: Depart for the tiny Wofo Islands.
- Day 7. The Black Forests of Wofo
- Morning Dive: Start the day with a dive in Wofo's Black Forest, named for its black and purple coral reefs. Turtles and blacktip sharks are often found resting on the coral outcrops.
- Return to the Boat: Enjoy a snack before your next dive.
- Wall Diving: Dive along the vertical walls at Wofo Tembok and Teman Wofo dive sites, exploring the diverse marine life clinging to the steep drop-offs
- Evening on the Beach: End the day with a secluded evening on the beach and a much-anticipated barbecue under the starry sky, prepared by the skilled chef of the "Calico Jack" crew.
- Day 8. Gam and Yangeffo Islands, Western Dampier Strait
- Anchorage in Mangroves: Begin your day anchored amidst the mangrove forests in the strait between Gam and Yangeffo Islands. This area offers some of the most stunning dive sites in Western Waigeo, including Mayhem and Citrus Ridge. Citrus Ridge is named for its vibrant coral reefs, reminiscent of a citrus garden, with coral colors ranging from bright yellow to deep orange.
- Dive at Mayhem: Enjoy a dive at Mayhem, considered one of the most "charged" diving zones in Raja Ampat due to the strong currents that bring in large schools of fish, including tuna, barracudas, and reef sharks.
- Free Time on the Boat: After your dive, take some free time to relax on the boat, followed by an evening of a luxurious dinner, drinks, songs, and dancing as you make your way back to Sorong.
- Night on the Boat: Spend your last night aboard the boat, reflecting on the unforgettable experiences of the trip.
- Day 9. Return to Sorong
- Arrival in Port: Arrive in Sorong port around 5:00 AM.
- Breakfast on the Boat: Enjoy a final breakfast on the boat and say your farewells to the crew.
