What To Expect

Day 1

Transfer: Bali - Ijen Volcano

Around 8:00 a.m. a driver from Go Adventure company will arrive at your hotel or villa. In a comfortable car, we will drive through the western part of the island to the ferry terminal in Gilimanuk. The road takes around 4 hours, and goes through the most picturesque surroundings of Bali: beaches, rice paddies, and the West coast National Park. The ferry crossing takes about an hour to the port of Banyuwangi in East Java. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Ketapang village and continue to the Ijen volcano area.

At 3:00 p.m. we will reach the first point of our route - the fairy-tale forest Djawatan Benculuk. It is known for its huge tamarind trees of bizarre shapes, completely covered with thick green moss. You'll have an hour to feel yourself like a hobbit from Lord of the Rings and take lots of amazing pictures in this magical place. At 4:00 p.m. we will continue our journey and arrive at the hotel by 5:00 p.m. Here you will need to check in and rest after a long day on the road.

Day 2

Sunrise on Ijen volcano - Jagir Waterfall - Banyuwangi

Around 0:30-1:00 a.m. we leave the hotel and will arrive at the Ijen National Park.  We will find ourselves in an amazing wild nature world - one of the few areas in Java overgrown with giant ferns and strikingly shaped plants.

Before the ascent we will meet a professional English-speaking guide who will provide us with gas masks and flashlights. After about an hour and a half trek we will reach the observation deck at the volcano crater. 

The largest deposit of sulfur is located here in crater and is constantly being mined. Miners climb down and up from the crater with 80-kilogram baskets on their shoulders. We will be able to watch their hard work on the way to the top.

We will meet the sunrise at 2386 meters above sea level. From here we will have a mesmerizing view of the volcano ridge and green forests stretching to the horizon. Squat trees on the slopes look like fantastic sea creatures, and an acid lake of indescribable emerald color surrounded by sulfur clouds. At about 6 a.m. we'll head back to the foot of the volcano. 

On the way to the hotel we will stop at another beautiful place - a cascade of 3 Jagir Falls. Locals call it the Waterfall of Brothers and Sisters, and the Waterfall of Angels, because the water here is so clear, as in the baths of the gods themselves. You can swim in the cool river flowing down from the nearby mountains and take stunning photos under the mighty refreshing jets. 

By 11:00 a.m. we'll be back at the hotel where we'll have breakfast, pack our bags, and take a break before heading back. Including the ferry ride to Bali will take about 5 - 6 hours. The exact time of arrival at the hotel/villa depends on the area of your hotel and the situation on the road.

Important note:

• according to clause 7.3.3 of the user agreement, MyBaliTrips.com is not responsible for the weather conditions on the dates of your ascent. The weather on Ijen volcano is unpredictable: fog, rain and low visibility are possible on the ascent, especially during the rainy season;
• at the top of Ijen volcano, the temperature can drop to +7 - +3 degrees. We strongly recommend you take warm clothes: jackets, hats, warm pants, sweaters and sweaters, some cotton t-shirts, socks and comfortable shoes;
• ijen volcano tickets are not included in the tour price and must be paid in cash at the entrance to the park. Ticket price on weekdays - 100 000 rupiah per person, on weekends - 150 000 rupiah per person;
• сlimbing Ijen is not recommended for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory diseases, pregnant women and people with heart failure.
